Home health and Nurse Aide (personal care aides) help people who are disabled, chronically ill, or cognitively impaired. They also help older adults who may need assistance. They help with activities such as bathing and dressing, and they provide services such as light housekeeping. In some states, home health aides may be able to give a client medication or check the client’s vital signs under the direction of a nurse or other healthcare practitioner.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, nursing assistant jobs, which
include home health aides and psychiatric aides, should experience about 19
percent growth by 2018. Home health aides are expected to have the fastest job
growth because many people prefer in-home treatment as a comfortable and
cost-saving alternative to hospital or nursing home care. It should be noted,
however, that nursing assistant jobs in hospitals and nursing homes are still
expected to grow faster than the average for all careers.
